Gabrielle Anwar has studied yoga for years but soon found the need to try something a little more active. Enter Yoga Hop, an entirely different way to enjoy yoga. Says Anwar in an interview with Shape magazine, “Two years ago, I discovered Yoga Hop, a superenergized twist on traditional poses. I’d do the mix of stretching, cardio, and strength training everyday if I had the time.”
Yoga is a physical and mental discipline characterized by its mellow meditative poses. Yoga is ideal for improving one’s overall health. Yoga Hop adds a new twist by incorporating high-energy music featuring the best of hip-hop and rock music. Trainers are often seen wearing microphone headsets as they direct a class of students with the music blasting in the background.
Yoga Hop is fast gaining popularity among the Hollywood elite. Reese Witherspoon is another known practicioner of Yoga Hop. It worked wonders for her strength and stamina levels.
A typical class Anwar and Witherspoon might take lasts 90 minutes. The first 60 minutes is a whirlwind of activity as students move from pose to pose while holding the postures for a few seconds. The last 30 minutes brings a change of pace, with more emphasis placed on stretching exercises. Pushups are also common throughout the workout.
The mix of eastern practices and western sensibilities have allowed many to enjoy yoga in an entirely different way. One of the reasons many people grow tired of exercising is the feeling of repetitiveness. A good way to avoid boredom is to mix things up, and Yoga Hop might just be the choice if you’re looking for a new way to enjoy yoga.
