During her stint as one of the Spice Girls, Melanie Brown had to look the part as one of five beautiful, energetic, and powerful girls. And years after, she still has her gorgeous figure which she has maintained using a number of weight loss methods she has found useful for her.

Mel B’s weight loss methods rely on a couple of fundamental things. First, she finds that it is very important that, as much as it is important to eat healthy food, it also has to taste good. She prefers marinating fish or chicken overnight, and then preparing it healthily the next day, rather than preparing unflavored chicken or fish, which could be healthy, but can end up miserable to eat.

Taking the time out to nurture the food you’ll eat to make it taste good so you’ll enjoy yourself adds more motivation to eat healthy, and because eating food is a big part of the day, it has to be enjoyable, she says.

Another important fundamental component for the former Spice Girl’s weight loss is counting calories. She does not mean being obsessed about counting calories in every meal, but rather, being conscious about how much calories can be found in some of the most common foods a person eats, and having the discipline to stop when one is already full. Taking time to study how many calories can be found in the foods one commonly eats can be the key to gauging the amount of calories a person eats each day, which in turn can prevent overeating.

Lastly, she promotes further research and knowledge about food; what’s good and what’s not, what certain foods can do, what the lack of certain foods results in, and everything else. Education, she says, is just as important as the discipline in weight loss and dieting.
