Kate Winslet has long been one of Hollwood’s finest actresses. The multi-awarded thespian is well-known for her work in movies such as Titanic and The Reader, movies which included steamy scenes where Winslet bared it all. It takes a lot of confidence to film those scenes, and having a trim physique can certainly help. With the help of the Facial Analysis Diet, Winslet has both in spades.

The Facial Analysis Diet was developed by nutritionist Elizabeth Gibaud. In her book “The Facial Analysis Diet”, Gimaud explains how a person’s unique facial features can be analyzed to fashion the perfect diet for that person. This completely individualized diet factors in the shape, texture, and tone of the face to create a comprehensive weight loss program.

Take for example forehead lines. This might be indicative of a diet with too much oil. A careful analysis of such features enables Gibaud to craft a diet specifically tailored to address these dietary imbalances. You will be able to determine what to eat and what not to eat. This will aid in your weight loss targets and improving your overall energy.

The diet itself draws from biochemistry principles to create an accurate diagnostic system. There are then six facial categories labelled A-D that details what to include in your diet. Type D faces are prone to inflammation. It is characterized by greasy foreheads and open pores. People who fall under this category are advised to eat asparagus, berries and carrots. They must avoid alcohol, pastries, and rice.

Aside from specifying what to eat, the diet also lists some tips on how to eat better. Quinoa is heartily recommended as a great source of protein along with a variety of vitamins and minerals. It may be found in most health and specialty food stores. It also has basic everyday reminders such as drinking plenty of liquids, avoiding excessive alcohol and caffeine consumption.

In a show as popular as the long-running American Idol, change can be a difficult thing to accept. New Americal Idol judge Kara DioGuardi initially found it difficult to incorporate herself into the established trio of Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul. Her shining moment came when DioGuardi went up against Katrina Darrell (otherwise known as Bikini Girl) in a bikini showdown. The 40 year old judge showed off her physique and proved that she had a place in the top ranked reality talent show.

DioGuardi impressed with her well-toned physique. It should come as no surprise that she does a variety of exercises to maintain her body. She also notes that she eats plenty of vegetable stir fry. Dioguardi says, “the more roughage you eat, the more it fills you up.”

Roughage is equivalent to dietary fiber, of which there are two types. Soluble fiber helps you feel fuller while insoluble fiber aids in the digestion process. Most vegetables contain both types of fiber. Foods rich in soluble fiber are: legumes, oats, berries, broccoli, and carrots. Foods rich in insoluble fiber are: whole grain, seeds, nuts, and wheat. The Micronutrient Center notes that the 5 plant foods with the most fiber content are legumes, bran, prunes, Asian pears, and quinoa.

In addition to helping you reach satiety faster, soluble fiber helps control your blood sugar levels, and helps reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes. Research studies show that most North Americans eat less than 50% of the recommended dietary fiber intake in their everyday diets. The American Dietetic Association recommends 20-35 grams per day.

A new product that aims to improve dietary fiber intake is vegetable gum. These fiber supplements are often sold in powder form. Guar gum is an example of such a supplement. It has been closely observed in many studues for its weight loss effects.

Hollywood has a tendency to forget past successes, and Amanda Seyfried is keenly aware of that. She has starred in a variety of hits – Mean Girls, Mamma Mia, and Jennifer’s Body – but Seyfriend understands that she has to stay on top of her game. Part of that is staying in shape and keeping fit. “If I’d been a bit bigger, I don’t think they would have cast me for Mamma Mia,” shares Seyfried in an interview.

Seyfried relies on a raw food diet in order to maintain her figure. A typical lunch for her is spinach and some seeds. If that sounds unappetizing, that’s because it is. But you can’t deny the results it produces. A raw food diet has three primary benefits – it aids in weight loss, improves ones health, and detoxifies the body. Additional benefits include improved energy levels, smoother digestion, and clearer skin.

Because raw foods are typically organic and unprocessed, they have less trans and saturated fats. These ingredients improve the shelf life of food but have adverse effects on your blood cholesterol level. One of the tenets of the raw food diet is to avoid cooking food at higher than 116 degrees Farenheit. Cooking food is believed to reduce the amount of enzymes and nutritional value naturally found in food. By avoiding this, digestion and absorption of food is improved.

The common foods that meet the guidelines of the raw food diet are: fruit and vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans, and grains. Blending and juicing are common techniques used to prepare the food. It is important to first consult with a doctor before trying the raw food diet. Nutritional deficiencies may arise due to the diet restrictions imposed.

Jeff Garlin’s new book, My Footprint: Carrying the Weight of the World, is about one man’s journey towards conquering his sugar addiction in order to lose weight and reducing his carbon footprint. The Curb Your Enthusiasm actor devoted one season of the show to a lifestyle makeover. In this tell-all book, Garlin shares with you the trials and tribulations he faced in this journey.

Curb creator Larry David sometimes engages him in playful taunting by way of a cheeseburger-milkshake combo. But Garlin stands firm in his pledge to stay away from sugar. He notes that he hasn’t had sugar in over a year after quitting cold turkey. “It took three weeks of not sleeping, of feeling miserable, and then BOOM. I had energy, I felt good, I saw the world in a much clearer way,” says Garlin in a Regis and Kelly interview.

Sugar, in itself, isn’t bad. In fact, the human body generates energy by burning sugar and turning it into glucose. However, when you consume too much sugar, the excess sugar is converted into fatty acids and stored by the body.

Another danger is excess insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps the human body use glucose as energy. When insulin levels are high (this can occur by consuming food and drinks with high simple carbohydate content), the body slows down its fat-burning processes so that sugar can be converted into energy. The process of ceasing insulin production has a delay. This causes blood sugar levels to drop thereby causing an increase in appetite.

One way to avoid these problems is to control the amounts of sugar you consume. Candy, chocolate, and ice cream are all treats that you can enjoy from time to time, but be careful not to consume too much. Portion control is the key.

Another method is to consult the glycemic index. This tells you which foods are best at helping regulate blood sugar levels. For example, whole grain bread is better than wheat bread because it doesn’t cause insulin levels to spike as much. It has a lower ranking in the glycemic index precisely because it has a better effect on your blood sugar levels due to its small fluctuations.

Molly Ringwald hasn’t had much time in the spotlight since her days as the teenage icon in the 80s. The Breakfast Club star is now a proud mother of twins (son Roman and daughter Adele). When asked about how she lost the weight, Ringwald says, “I try to make sure that I eat something green.” In addition, she eats fewer sweets and starch and takes in more protein and vegetables.

Green leafy vegetables pack quite the nutritional punch! It has loads of vitamins, minerals, flavonoids, and phytonutrients. The benefits are numerous – it protects against cell damage, regulates inflammation and blood clotting, and helps prevent diseases. It is also a good source of Vitamin K. This vitamin helps keep your bones strong. All this is a low-calorie package.

Greens are also beneficial if you want to control your blood sugar. There is little carbohydrate content in greens. Instead, it contains fiber that helps regulate blood sugar, and makes you feel fuller. It also helps in the digestive process.

The color of the greens is important. Make sure to select leaves with a vibrant color. The darker green vegetables typically have more nutrients in them. If the leaves are yellowish in color, this is a sign of age that may affect the taste.

There are many greens to choose from. Kale is a good example. It is a type of cabbage that can be an excellent addition to salads. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects along with its high vitamin K content. Broccoli is also from the cabbage family. You see parents everywhere encouraging their kids to ear broccoli, and for good reason! It has many of the health benefits listed above.

Folate is a vitamin found in many leafy greens such as spinach and romaine lettuce. It is essential for producing and maintaining new cells. It is also used to produce red blood cells. For these reasons, growing children can especially benefit from eating these green rich in folate.

Leona LewisEnglish pop singer Leona Lewis has made quite a name for herself after becoming a multi-platinum selling artist and Grammy nominee. Lewis is also a strong advocate for protecting animals as she supports the World Society for the Protection for Animals in addition to being a vegetarian. She was selected as PETA’s 2008 Person of the Year.

You might think that the pressures of superstardom has gotten to Lewis, but she disputes that. In a time where celebrities are taken to task for even the slightest flaw in their looks, Lewis says that she puts pressure on herself to stay healthy and eat well. You won’t see anyone pressuring her to stay slim, that’s for sure.

Lewis tried to detoxify one summer and the results were very positive. She went from a size 14 to a size 10. She ate mostly vegetables and made it a point to avoid processed food of any kind. As part of the detoxification process, Lewis also made sure to drink plenty of water to flush toxins out.

One of the disadvantages of processed food is that it sometimes strips vital vitamins and minerals as it is processed. Vitamin C is destroyed by heat, so processed fruit sometimes have lower vitamin C than fresh produce.

Additives, flavorings, and preservatives also have their drawbacks. They have little to no nutritional value as they only serve to prolong the shelf life of the product. Even more dangerous is the use of substitute ingredients. These low cost alternatives to natural ingredients have many health risks associated with them. The cheaper price and lack of information on the part of the consumers are reasons as to why they are still widely used.

Processed food also contains more calories over nutrients than other foods. This has popularized the term “junk food” because of the empty calories gained from eating such foods.

In short, always be on the lookout for fresh produce. It may be a bit costlier, but the benefits to your health and fitness are immense.

Samantha Thavasa Japan HeadquartersVictoria Beckham always manages to look slim, and the former Spice Girl attributes her trim figure to eating healthily. Beckham is a big fan of Japanese cuisine which typically includes foods such as rice, fish, fruit, vegetables, and soy. Tea is also a major component of the average Japanese diet. The city of Okinawa in Japan has one of the best longevity rates in the world, and you can be sure that the cuisine helps with that.

One of Beckham’s favorites is edamame beans. This soybean is fast gaining popularity due to its many health benefits. The United States Department of Agriculture calls edamame beans “a snack with a nutritional punch”. Edamame is a type of soybean. It contains loads of protein and omega-3 fatty acids. This ensures that your body gets a healthy amount of protein and fat in your daily diet. Edamame also has a slight laxative effect, and this is a common traditional remedy in some parts of Asia. Soya products also help reduce the risk of stomach, colon, and prostate cancer.

The beans can be eaten as a whole. Another popular way is to use them as a dip. The Oriental section of your local supermarket usually has this in supply. Beckham always orders a bowl when dining at London’s number one Japanese restaurant, Nobu.

Seaweed shakes are also a part of Beckham’s diet. It is packed with vitamins and nutrients and also acts as a detoxification agent. It even helps you have smoother skin. Miso soup is another traditional Japanese dish, and it contains both tofu and seaweed.

Take note that edamame beans and seaweed shakes need to be supplemented with some carbohydrates. It is always better to have a balanced diet so as to get all the necessary vitamins and minerals in the body. Japanese rice is a nice treat, and sushi is another Japanese dish if you’re looking for carbohydrate sources.

Kylie MinogueKylie Minogue’s physique has long been the envy of women everywhere. The pop superstar keeps trim by following the Glycaemic Diet, a diet that conforms to the Glycemic Index (GI). This diet actually has a lot of variety. It is composed mostly of foods low on the GI scale, foods such as whole grains and fruits. It also avoids foods high on the GI scale, such as processed carbohydrates.

The Glycemic Index is basically a scale from 1-100 on how fast food is converted into blood sugar. Foods with a low rating is converted into blood sugar slower, and, as a result, helps regulate blood sugar levels. Foods with a high rating tend to cause sugar spikes, something that the body gets used to and causes negative consequences later. Sticking to foods on the lower end of scale ensures that you feel sated longer and this leads to less snacking.

Just a tip to remember: The GI diet is not a short-term diet. It promotes healthy eating that leads to a healthier and fitter you. It also encourages exercise in conjuction with the diet, something that we all need to do anyway.

Here is a brief classification of the GI scale:
    1. Low GI – 55 or less – fruit and vegetables, whole grain breads, pasta, milk, yogurt
    2. Medium GI – 56-69 – whole wheat, sweet potato, table sugar
    3. High GI – 70 or more – corn flakes, baked potato, watermelon, croissant, white bread, white rice

There are many widely available guides on the exact ratings of common foods. Consult them for certainty or if you just want to find out for yourself. Educating yourself is one of the best and easiest things you can do to lose weight!

Christina AguileraChristina Aguilera makes her big screen debut in the musical drama Burlesque, and the singer-turned-actress looks like she’s in great shape thanks to all the dancing involved. Aguilera’s personal Trainer, Tee Sorge, tells InTouch magazine that weight training and a healthy diet are the keys to her success. One of Aguilera’s diet secrets is green tea, a drink that has many health benefits on top of its ability to aid in weight-loss.

The health benefits of green tea are well-documented. It contains loads of anti-oxidants that fight against carcinogens and free radicals. It also stimulates a process called thermogenesis. Thermogenesis is the process through which organisms produce heat. This process does require some energy, so you will burn calories as a precursor to thermogenesis. Some devices today use artificially-generated thermogenesis to control weight fluctuations. But why settle when you can get it naturally from green tea?

Research also shows how green tea can aid in weight loss. Obese people typically burn more carbohydrates than fat compared to the average person. Scientists have theorized that this is a genetic defect related to the release of certain chemicals. Studies further show that green tea can help in correcting this genetic defect. In other words, drinking tea can help you burn fat!

Green tea also serves as an insurance policy against the common health problems caused by obesity. It reduces the risk of strokes, cancer, and diabetes. Just remember that tea does have caffeine, so take that into consideration if you are not used to consuming too much caffeine.
